Damir Jakus

Damir Jakus

Full Professor | Department of Power Grids and Substations

University of Split - FESB

Damir Jakus was born in 1984 in Split, Croatia, where he received a dipl. ing. title, equivalent to the M.E.E., at the University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in 2006. In 2012, he defended his PhD thesis, “Wind power integration considering limited transmission capacity”, under the supervision of Prof. Ranko Goić. Currently, he is a researcher and a Full-Time Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split.

For the past decade, his primary interest has been the optimal operation of energy systems with a high penetration of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar. His work focuses on power system planning and analysis, and the application of mathematical programming to address modern power system challenges, including electric vehicle integration and renewable energy sources (RES) integration.

Today, he focuses on a broader research portfolio with the main objective of supporting the integration of renewable energy generation and electric vehicles into power systems. By considering electricity markets and optimal grid operation, he aims to facilitate the energy transition and help create a sustainable future.

With a belief that the future of electric power systems lies in our ability to harness data, technology, and collaboration to create an energy landscape that is both sustainable and equitable, his work aims to contribute to this vision, driving forward innovations that will help achieve a cleaner, brighter future for all.
