Goran Petrović was born on September 25, 1971. in Split, where he finished elementary school and high school of mathematics and informatics. In 1996, he obtained a Master’s degree in electrical engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split. Also, he obtained the academic title of Master of Science. Master’s thesis: “Inrush Current in Three Phase Power Transformer” under the mentorship of prof. dr. sc. Stanko Milun, he defended in 2002, at FESB. Doctoral thesis: “Early detection of cage asynchronous motor failures by star point voltage analysis” under the supervision of prof. dr. sc. Martin Jadrić and prof. dr. sc. Stanko Milun, he defended in 2006, also at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split. He was elected to the scientific-teaching title of assistant professor in 2009, to the title of associate professor in 2012, to the title of full professor in 2018, and to the title of full professor with tenure in 2023.
He has been employed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split since 1998. He held the position of Head of the Department of Electrical Power Engineering from 2016 to 2020.
Prof. dr. sc. Goran Petrović is the author of a university textbook: “Measurement of Process Quantities”. He is the author of 13 scientific papers of A category, with the most significant scientific achievements related to: measurement of asynchronous motor speed from current measurement signal, measurement and modeling of high-voltage cable heating at rated current load, nonlinear modeling of asynchronous motor and transformer due to determine residual magnetism, real time phasor measurement in high distorted voltages. He is also the author of 4 papers in B category journals and 17 papers in proceedings of international scientific conferences. He was a member of the program committees of 9 international scientific conferences. He has reviewed 26 papers for 8 A-category journals and 62 papers at scientific conferences. He was a guest editor in one issue of a category A journal, one issue of a domestic B category journal and two proceedings of a scientific conference. He is a member of the editorial board of an A-category journal. He is a member of the organizing committee of the international scientific conference SMAGRIMET.
Goran Petrović has participated in two international scientific projects: “Creation of the third cycle studies-doctoral studies in metrology” and “Extracting electric energy from human body for supplying autonomous biomedical devices and new PVDF transducer optimization”. He has participated in 5 domestic scientific projects: “Metrological infrastructure to support the intelligent energy grid”, “Metrology infrastructure for smart grids”, “Identification of synchronous generator parameters in operation”, “Calculation of permissible current load capacities of power cables” and “Measurement and standardization service in the Republic of Croatia”. He was the leader of the domestic scientific project: “Simulator of disturbances in the power system and calibrator of non-sinusoidal voltages and currents”. He is a member of the scientific association: IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.
During his academic career, prof. dr. sc. Goran Petrović taught at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies of electrical engineering, as well as professional studies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split. He is the holder of the following courses: “Informatics” and “Measurements in Electrical Power Engineering” at professional studies, " Measurement and Signal Processing" and “Measurement of Process Quantities” at the graduate study of Electrical Engineering, “Measurement and Application of Synchrophasors” at the doctoral study of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. He is the mentor of a doctoral student. He was the chairman of the Committee for the Graduate Thesis of Electrical Engineering.
Goran Petrović has prepared 35 elaborates or studies for 23 different clients. The prepared studies deal with the topics of power quality, testing of earthing systems, measurements of geoelectric properties of soil, measurements of geothermal properties of cable beds. He has published 2 professional papers in the proceedings of the national conference. He is the head of training in the field of electrical engineering in the Professional Training Program for Energy Certification of Buildings. He worked on the popularization of the profession through the presentation of the book “And there was light”, issued on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the electrification of Split, and through participation in science festivals. He is a member of the Croatian branch of CIGRÉ.
