Relay protection database

Abstract

The paper presents the development of a relay protection database through a series of phases. In the database planning phase, problems in a typical relay protection department were examined and the reason for developing a database was determined. Then, in the requirements analysis and specification phase, what the database would do was defined. In the database design and creation phase, its logical and then physical model was defined on a computer using the Microsoft Access database management system, which specified how the database would work. Finally, the database was put into operation by testing it on real data and training future users. The presented database enables the systematization, storage and use of a huge amount of data with minimal redundancy. In addition, it provides support for regular maintenance of relay protection devices, issuing work orders, periodic reporting, etc. The relay protection database can be accessed by several users with different authorizations over individual database objects. Access rights are determined by the user identity. A special application has also been created for easier viewing, updating and printing of data, which enables the display of a number of previously prepared relay protection database components. The main purpose of the application is to enable the user to use the full power of Microsoft Access with minimal effort and minimal knowledge of database techniques and database management systems.
