The first chapter of the thesis describes the basic features of the finite difference method and the finite element method. The second chapter provides the theoretical basis of the finite element method. The third chapter elaborates four variants of the finite element method. In the fourth chapter, the finite element method is used for the numerical calculation of a 3D static current field. In the fifth chapter, the finite element method is used to model the static current field of a circular plate earth electrode placed on the surface of a heterogeneous soil. For a homogeneous soil, the results of the numerical calculation are compared with the analytical results.
