The paper presents the issue of selecting the grounding method for a typical wind farm’s medium-voltage cable network, considering the magnitude of the short-circuit current to ground and the amount of expected internal and temporary overvoltages. The methods of low-resistance grounding and grounding using a Petersen choke, as well as the isolated network mode, are considered. The issue of implementing a relay protection system for a typical wind farm’s medium-voltage network is also considered, from the aspect of the selected grounding method, with special emphasis on protection against short circuits to ground.
