The issue of losses in distribution networks is always very topical, and especially the issue of realistic determination of the amount of technical losses, i.e. separation of technical losses in the network and losses caused by measurement errors, illegal consumption, etc. Losses of power and energy in the network are becoming more and more relevant and important in view of the restructuring and introduction of market relations in the Croatian electricity sector. This paper briefly presents the preliminary results of research on the methodology for determining the amount of power and energy losses in the medium-voltage distribution network, as well as their structure, that is, the percentage share by network elements. Calculations were made on the real medium-voltage distribution network of the Trogir - DP Elektrodalmacija plant, with exact technical parameters of all elements and based on actual input data of peak loads and annual electricity consumption for the year 2001. The PowerCAD 4.1 software package (lit. 1) was used for network modeling and calculations, which has been used for many years in Croatia and BiH for various analyzes of electric power networks.
