Dead-time processes are processes in which there is a time lag between the output and input process quantities. The time lag of the process makes control more difficult, because it reduces the phase reserve of the closed control loop. In addition to the dead time, the integral action of the process causes additional difficulty in controlling this type of process. This article will answer the question: Which controller should be used for this type of process in order to obtain the best possible quality of control?. A comparison of controllers on a specific process with integral action and a large dead time was performed. The process under consideration is the maintenance of the water level in the Lipa reservoir, which is maintained by supplying water from the Busko Blato reservoir. The distance between the two reservoirs causes a dead time of 1h and 15min. The disturbance in this process is the water discharge to the Orlovac hydroelectric power plant.
