Computation and overvoltage protection selection for the Wind Farm Crno Brdo

Abstract

The paper presents analyses and numerical calculations of overvoltage conditions of the Crno Brdo wind farm system. This study also selects specific metal oxide surge arresters for effective overvoltage protection of the Crno Brdo wind farm system (wind turbine with associated transformer and cable network), and then numerically analyzes their operation in situations of expected adverse overvoltage conditions, with special emphasis on the so-called back-surge overvoltage, which is the result of a direct lightning strike to the wind turbine.
